Movement imagery is the ability to simulate movements in your mind. This questionnaire looks at how clearly and vividly you can imagine 12 everyday actions from three different viewpoints.
Watch yourself perform the movement from the outside, as if viewing a video recording of yourself.
Perform the action through your own eyes, from a first-person view.
Focus on the body. Feel the muscle tension, effort and sensation of the movement without physically moving.
For each action, take a moment to imagine it from each viewpoint in turn. Then choose the rating that best describes how vivid your mental image was. Note that lower numbers mean more vivid imagery.
There are 12 actions with three ratings each. Most people finish in 8 to 12 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers.
On the VMIQ-2, lower scores mean more vivid imagery. Each viewpoint is scored from 12 (most vivid) to 60 (no image). The total runs from 36 to 180.
Approximate values for healthy young to middle-aged adults, drawn from validation research. Bands are a guide for learning, not a diagnosis.
